CLARIFIES ITS 1996 FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Padaeng Industry Plc (PDI) reported its audited annual financial
statement as follows:
(in thousands)
For 1 year Ending December 31
1996 1995
PDI
Net profit(Loss) (433,472) (476,599)
EPS(Baht)(Loss) (3.65) (4.58)
The company reported that the 1996 operating performance had a net
loss of Bt433.47 million when realizing net loss from subsidiaries and
affiliates compared to 1995 which showed a net loss of Bt476.60 million.
This was because the company changed its production process by using
impored zinc sulphide (more expensive than zinc silicate from Mae Sod
which was not enough) forcing it to realize more depreciation and loss
from affiliates.
However, the second half showed a much lower loss and tend to do
better. This was because it used higher proportion of zinc silicate with
zinc sulphide in new process resulting in much lower material cost. And it
also could reduce expenses and key cost to a satisfied level.
In 1996, the company had total revenues of Bt3,735.18 million when it
could sell 21% more of zinc from 1995 due to more production. The company
had 72% market share and will increased production capacity from 73,800
metric tonnes to 105,000 metric tonnes of zinc within March 1997 which
will result in higher revenues and reduce cost per unit by a great deal
