Padaeng Industry Plc. (PDI) reported the summary of its reviewed quarterly financial statements as follows: (In Thousands) Ending June 30 2nd Quarter For 6 months 1996 1995 1996 1995 PDI/PDI & its subsidiaries Net profit(Loss) (130,682) (153,153) (278,684) (117,125) EPS (Baht) (1.26) (1.47) (2.68) (1.13) According to the financial statements for the second quarter of 1996, PDI had a net loss of Bt105.62 mllion before figuring the gain/loss in its subsidiaries and associates. After realising the net loss of the subsidiaries and associates, the company had a total net loss of Bt130.68, a slight improvement over the said figures for the first quarter of 1996 of Bt115.02 million and Bt148 million respectively. As for the first 6-month period of 1996, PDI had a net loss of Bt220.64 million before adding in figures of its subsidiaries and associates, and a net loss of Bt278.68 million after adding them. The company had to shoulder a higher electricity price from the EGAT. Moreover, the cost of imported sulfide zinc remained high. The company also experienced losses in its affiliates. However, PDI could increase its zinc production, an increase 10% of sales, and increase its sales income by 22% over those in the same period of 1995. To compare the results of Q2 and Q1 of 1996 the operating results had a much improved trend. The company has attempted to reduce its production cost and other expenses continuously, so the results in later quarters are expected to be better.
